| Spanish abstract | El objetivo de este estudio es revisar y comparar los sistemas educativos de Estados Unidos y México situando nuestro interés en la atención que proporcionan a los niños migrantes. Es una investigación de tipo documental, cuyos resultados indican que, a pesar del interés en ambos países por brindar educación básica, ésta propicia exclusión reflejada en fracaso escolar de quienes no se ajustan a los parámetros establecidos. En este sentido, podemos concluir que los procesos educativos y de manera específica los programas diseñados para atender a estudiantes inmigrantes en Estados Unidos tienden, generalmente, a excluirlos y segregarlos por sus diferencias culturales y sociales; mientras que el sistema educativo mexicano conmina a que se adapten a las prácticas escolares instituidas de manera unívoca y centralizada, cuestión que no permite que su formación cubra sus necesidades y expectativas |
| English abstract | The objective of this study is to review and compare the educational systems in the United States and Mexico, with a focus on the attention paid to immigrant children. The research is of a documentary type. The results indicate that in spite of both countries’ interest in offering elementary education, exclusion is reflected in the scholastic failure of students who do not adjust to established parameters. In this sense, we can conclude that educational processes, and specifically the programs designed for teaching immigrant children in the United States, tend to exclude and segregate these children because of their cultural and social differences. The Mexican educational system, on the other hand, requires students to adapt to school practices that are univocal and centralized, thus preventing education from covering students’ needs and expectations |
