| English abstract | This article analyzes the translation, made by Olavo Bilac (1865-1918), of the German writer Wilhelm Busch’s Max und Moritz - Eine Bubengeschichte in sieben Streichen. Combining rhymed and measured verses to illustrations and forming narrative sequences, Busch developed a means of expression which may be defi ned as illustrated story, a predecessor form of the current comics. To the translator of this kind of text, the biggest challenge is in comprehending the relationship between the two languages which compose the text - words and images |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo analisa a tradução, feita por Olavo Bilac (1865-1918), da obra Max und Moritz – Eine Bubengeschichte in sieben Streichen, do alemão Wilhelm Busch (1832-1908). Combinando versos rimados e metrifi cados a ilustrações e formando seqüências narrativas, Busch desenvolveu um meio de expressão que pode ser defi nido como história ilustrada, forma precursora das atuais Histórias em Quadrinhos. Para o tradutor desse tipo de texto, o maior desafi o está na compreensão da relação entre as duas linguagens que compõem o texto – a palavra e a imagem |
