English abstract | Art museums have historically contributed to the simplified view offered by social stereotypes with respect to social groups that are different. These stereotypes have foste - red hostility toward those groups and acted as instruments of social legitimization. The prestige of dominant class culture, represented in art museums, reinforces the inclusion of some and the exclusion of others. The non-public, made up of socially, economically, and culturally fragile social groups, has almost always been excluded from museums. While museums have been a vehicle for knowledge that is only understood by a minority, they are currently obliged to procure the codes necessary for this knowledge to be accessible to everyone. This article is the result of an empirical research project, carried out in co - llaboration with French associations that promote the social inclusion of the non-public through free ‘cultural’ visits to museums, among others |
