| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo se adentra en el conflicto que tuvieron los atenienses y los Melios en el año 416 a.C., mediante el cual el imperio ateniense intima a los Melios a concertar una alianza con ellos o a ser destruidos. Los Melios respondieron argumentando que debía respetarse su neutralidad con respecto a la disputa que trababan en ese momento los imperios de Esparta y Atenas, máxime si las leyes internacionales garantizaban ese derecho, sin embargo, los atenienses rechazaron discutir la Justicia de sus demandas o cualquier otro argumento. Así pues los Melios lejos de buscar una improbable utilidad común con el poderoso (Atenas), prosigue su alocada carrera hacia ninguna parte, esto es, hacia su destrucción |
| English abstract | The present article delves into the conflict where the Athenians and the Melians had in the year of 416 b.C., whereby the Athenian empire intimidates the Melians to create an alliance with them or be destroyed. The Melians responded by arguing that their neutrality should be respected with regard to the dispute at the time that hindered the empires of Sparta and Athens, especially if the international laws guaranteed that right. Nevertheless, the Athenians refused to discuss the justice of their demands or any other argument |
