| Spanish abstract | Se reflexiona sobre el estado del arte de la investigación cualitativa en los estudios odontológicos de la Universidad de Carabobo. La metodología empleada se fundamentó en el paradigma naturalista, asumiéndose la lógica del descubrimiento y ubicando la mirada cualitativa del abordaje dentro de la perspectiva crítica-hermenéutica. Las aproximaciones del estudio arrojan que la Odontología se ha visto influida por el paradigma positivista, constituido por principios de disyunción, reducción y abstracción. Ello ha conducido a que el paradigma de investigación hegemónico en la profesión odontológica sea el positivista-cuantitativo, procurando con la aplicación del método científico explicar la totalidad de los fenómenos, sean de orden natural o espiritual; destacándose que el grueso de las investigaciones en la Facultad de Odontología de la Universidad de Carabobo es cuantitativa y que la prospectiva para el futuro va en la misma dirección. No obstante, actualmente se constata que la metodología cualitativa comienza a tomar auge y se hace cada vez más evidente que ambos (métodos cualitativos y cuantitativos) no son posiciones antagónicas, sino que ambos son necesarios para conocer el mundo. Su idoneidad y eficacia se ha de juzgar a la luz del tipo de conocimiento que se quiera recabar y el empleo de ambas metodologías podría ayudar a corregir los sesgos propios de cada metodología |
| English abstract | The following research deals with the state-of-the-art of the qualitative investigation in the odontológicos studies of the University of Carabobo. The used methodology was based on the naturalistic paradigm, assuming the logic of the discovery and locating the qualitative glance of the boarding within the perspective critic-hermeneutic. The approaches of the study throw that the Odontolgy has been influenced by the positivist paradigm, constituted by principles of disjunction, reduction and abstraction. It has lead to that the hegemonic paradigm of investigation in the odontological profession is the positivist-quantitative one, trying with the application of the scientific method to explain the totality of the phenomena, are of standard order or spiritual; standing out that the thickness of the investigations in the Faculty of Odontolgy of the University of Carabobo is quantitative and that the prospective for the future goes in the same direction. However, at the moment it is stated that the qualitative methodology begins to take height and is more and more made that both (qualitative and quantitative methods) are not antagonistic positions, but that both evident are necessary to know the world. Its suitability and effectiveness are had to judge the light of the type of knowledge that is wanted to successfully obtain and the use of both methodologies could help to correct the own slants of each methodology |
