English abstract In this paper, we aim to discuss the concept of consciousness from the perspective of John Searle analyzing his philosophical thought about this concept. For this, we will analyze a work of Searle entitled Consciousness and Language, in which he depicts interesting aspects on consciousness, especially in the first three chapters. Perhaps the major problem of the study of the consciousness is the conceptual task, since there are twenty-five of failed attempts to reach a “universal” concept on consciousness. For Searle is not difficult to circumscribe consciousness: consciousness is the set of subjective states of sensitivity (sentience) or science (awareness), that begin when a person wake up, and that extend Searle is not difficult to circumscribe consciousness: is the set of state subjective sensitivity (sentience) or science (awareness), that begin when a person wakes up in the am, and that extend throughout the day. During the discussions, Searle brings us the following problem: How to study consciousness scientifically? With this question, Searle will portray the concept of scientific objectivity in the face of the concept of subjective, which is sometimes excluded from scientific study. Thus, understanding certain features of consciousness task becomes of paramount importance as they are essential for the existence of consciousness; these characteristics are: subjectivity, quality and the unit. It is clear that Searle’s conception is not universally accepted in the scientific academy; however, his questions show us a "safe" path, from which science can follow a philosophical-scientific study of consciousness
