| Spanish abstract | Este estudio investiga la relación que existe entre la prosodia y la gestualidad. Nosotros hipotetizamos que a) las distinciones entre las emisiones de foco contrastivo y las declarativas categóricas no solo son a nivel prosódico sino también a nivel gestual y b) que existe alineación entre el ápex y el acento nuclear del enunciado entonativo. Los resultados indican que existen diferencias porcentuales entre los tipos de gestos que son utilizados en los enunciados de foco contrastivo y en los declarativos categóricos. Asimismo, existe una alineación entre el ápex y la palabra en foco. Finalmente se halló que la configuración prototípica de las declarativas categóricas presenta un alotonema H* L% para marcar el foco en posición nuclear, sin embargo, se mantiene la misma función pragmática: marcar fonológicamente el foco contrastivo |
| English abstract | This study investigates the relationship between prosody and gesture. We hypothesize that a) the difference between narrow-focus and categorical statements are evident not only at the prosody but also at the gestural level, and b) there is an alignment between the apex and the accented syllable in the intonation of the utterance. The results indicate that there are percent differences between the types of gestures that are used in narrow-focus and in categorical statements. In addition, an alignment was observed between the apex and the focus word. Finally, it was found that the prototypical configuration of categorical statements shows an allotoneme H* L% to stress the focus in the core position.
