English abstract | This article discusses the topic of teacher motivation in the context of a school improvement project that started in a handful of schools in 2004, expanded gradually to hundreds of schools in the following six years through the development of social networks among teachers, teacher coaches, and educational authorities, and has currently been adopted as a public policy to transform educational practice in 9 000 Mexican public schools. Drawing from the analysis of the experiences of teachers who have participated in the project, I argue that their main source of motivation to transform their practice and influencing educational change beyond their classrooms can be found inside the instructional core: in their satisfaction to learn well, develop a closer pedagogical connection with their students, and witnessing tangible improvements in their students’ learning |
