| Spanish abstract | Este artículo analiza la educación ambiental a partir de la teoría crítica; inicia con una revisión de la crisis de civilización como producto de un proceso histórico cuyos orígenes se remontan al proyecto moderno. Señala la necesidad de una racionalidad alternativa y el tránsito hacia la sustentabilidad. Construir esa otra racionalidad, a partir de lo ambiental, implica promover una educación que impulse el cambio con acciones alternativas para la búsqueda de solucio-nes a la crisis de civilización. En este marco se revisa el desarrollo de la educación ambiental y la diversidad de enfoques concretados en la heterogeneidad de experiencias. | English abstract | This article analyzes the environmental education from the critical theory; it begins with the review of the crisis of civilization as the product of a historical process whose origins go back to the modern project. It points out the need for an alternative rationality and for the transition to sustainability. Building a rationality based on the environment requires the promotion of an education that drives the change through alternative actions in the search for solutions to the crisis of civilization. Within this framework, this paper examines the development of environmental education and the diversity of approaches, materialized in the heterogeneity of experiences. In a dynamic and complex world, the mission of contributing to the transformation of social and environmental reality is placed in education |
