| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo aborda el análisis y la posible atribución de una tabla a Jan Massys, en la que se representa un famoso emblema de Andrea Alciato "In Senatvm". A través del análisis de las claves iconográficas, de la firma y de las características estilísticas de la tabla se atribuye la obra al pintor flamenco. Se trata de una obra de gran interés por cuanto es inédita y la única conocida hasta el momento en la que se representa un emblema del erudito italiano casi de manera contemporánea a la edición del famoso libro de emblemas. Los autores abordan también su posible significado en el contexto religioso y político europeo |
| English abstract | This article analyzes a panel which represents a famous emblem by Andrea Alciato, "In Senatvm", and addresses its possible attribution to Jan Massys. Through the analysis of certain iconographic "keys", the signature and the stylistic characteristics of the panel, it upholds the attribution to the Flemish painter. This is a work of great interest since, besides being hitherto unpublished, it is the only one known so far which reproduces an emblem by the Italian savant; furthermore, it was executed almost contemporaneously with the edition of the famous emblem book. The authors also consider its possible significance in the European religious and political context |
