| Spanish abstract | Este artículo estudia la evolución reciente del empleo en el sector terciario en Venezuela y lo compara con las tendencias globales, y analiza las características del empleo para las diferentes ramas que componen el sector, así como las dinámicas subyacentes. La expansión del empleo en el sector terciario latinoamericano se basa en procesos simultáneos de inclusión y exclusión laboral. Los primeros reflejan el papel creciente de algunas actividades del sector terciario en la competitividad sistémica y en la reproducción social, y se expresan en la generación de empleos de productividad y calidad comparativamente elevadas. Los segundos surgen por la presión de la oferta laboral, y genera empleos que suelen ser poco productivos y de mala calidad (Weller, 2004). En este artículo se analizan las características del empleo en el sector terciario en Venezuela en el período 1978 a 2004. Como lo hace (Weller, 2004), se compara, la evidencia empírica sobre la evolución del empleo en el sector terciario a nivel mundial, preguntándose sí Venezuela muestra características especiales y, sobre todo, si los datos apoyan o no la tesis de una diferencia fundamental entre la terciarización en los países industrializados y aquella en la región latinoamericana y caribeña (terciarización genuina contra terciarización espuria), específicamente en Venezuela. Los hallazgos empíricos muestran baja productividad laboral en el sector, sin embargo no son concluyentes acerca del tipo de terciarización presente en el país, dado que se requiere información que no está disponible para tal fin |
| English abstract | This article studies the recent evolution of the use in the tertiary sector in Venezuela and it compares it with the global tendencies, and analyzes the characteristics of the use for the different branches that compose the sector, as well as dynamic the underlying ones. The expansion of the use in the Latin American tertiary sector is based on simultaneous processes of inclusion and labor exclusion. First they reflect the increasing paper of some activities of the tertiary sector in the sistemic competitiveness and the social reproduction, and productivity uses of and quality is expressed in the generation of comparativily elevated. The seconds arise by the pressure of the labor supply, and generates uses that usually are little productive and of bad quality (Weller, 2004). In this article the characteristics of the use in the tertiary sector in Venezuela in period 1978 to 2004 are analyzed. Since it does (Weller, 2004), it is compared, the empirical evidence on the evolution of the use in the tertiary sector at world-wide level, asking yes Venezuela shows special characteristics and, mainly, if the data support or not it thesis of a fundamental difference between the terciarizations in the industrialized countries and that in the Latin American and Caribbean region (genuine terciarization against terciarizations spurious), specifically in Venezuela. The empirical findings show low labor productivity in the sector, nevertheless are not conclusive about the type of present terciarizations in the country, since information is required that is not available for such aim |
