| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo centra su atención en los términos sociedad civil, organizaciones civiles (OC) y los nuevos movimientos sociales (NMS), como espacios de interacción entre ciudadanos que se articulan en aras de objetivos comunes. Se hace un breve recorrido teórico por los conceptos señalados culminando con un estudio de caso: los logros de una OC proambientalista. A partir de este ejemplo se pone relevancia teórica y práctica de la terminología usada, y se enfatiza sobre la lucha de esta organización en defensa del agua, mediante su articulación con otras y NMS. Se presenta también la lucha en diferentes arenas sociales y frente a diversos actores, que emprende para el logro de sus propósitos. Se concluye con la observación del contenido pragmático y político de las OC, ya que devienen en vehículos de participación ciudadana, que luchan por intereses públicos y se articulan con movimientos sociales de gran envergadura |
| English abstract | This paper centers on the terms Civil Society, Civil Organizations (CO), and the New Social Movements (NSM) as spaces of citizen interaction that are addressed on behalf of common objectives. It includes a brief theoretical overview of the aforementioned concepts that leads to a case study: the achievements of a pro-environmental CO. Used as a way to underscore the theoretical and practical relevance of the terminology used, the case study also showcases the struggles of this organization in the defense of water as it joins other COs and NSMs in this effort. The paper also addresses the struggle fought by the organization on several social fronts and by a diversity of players in order to attain its goals.
