| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo busca mostrar el pensamiento y actuación internas del Ejército de Chile con respecto a las fuerzas de izquierda existentes en nuestro país durante los años post Primera Guerra Mundial. Por una parte la postura castrense de antagonismo y desconfianza hacia tales grupos se explicaría en base a lo que entendemos como una “subcultura militar”, es decir un conjunto de elementos simbólicos y discursivos de diversa índole característicos del Ejército, los que influirían en las ideas y actuar de sus integrantes por medio de diversas herramientas. Por otro lado proponemos que esta posición anti-izquierdista, existente desde principios de siglo, pasaría a cobrar mayor relevancia dentro de la subcultura de los uniformados en este período a partir de las grandes movilizaciones sociales de fines de 1918 que, junto con la difusión del ideario ácrata y socialista entre sectores populares, terminarían por provocar diversas medidas por parte de la oficialidad del Ejército a fin de impedir que tales ideas afectaran negativamente a la disciplina y cohesión militares, objetivo que además se expresaría de diversas formas |
| English abstract | This article attempts to show the internal thought and the way the Chilean Army act in relation to the left-wing forces existing in our country for the years post First World War. On the one hand, the military position of antagonism and mistrust towards such groups is explained based on what we understand as a “military subculture”, this is a collection of symbolic and discursive elements of different characteristics of the Army, which influenced on the ideas and behavior of their members by means of diverse tools. On the other hand, we propose that this anti-leftist position, existing since beginning of the century, became crucial in the military subculture in that period. The great social mobilizations at the end of 1918 together with the spreading of the anarchist and socialist ideology among popular sectors, ended up to cause several measures by the Army officer corps in order to prevent that such ideas affected negatively the military discipline and cohesion, objective expressed furthermore in different ways |
