| English abstract | The present paper is an attempt to reflect on some of the impacts of the neoliberal capitalist system on the subjective production of the population under socioeconomic poverty. In order to achieve our goal, we take one paradigmatic case, that is the story of one woman -who represents many women- using the social services provided to the so-called poor living on the outskirts of Porto Alegre, Brazil. The departure point was the analysis of her daily life, and by investigating her activities, her material possessions, and the expression of her feelings we engaged in a dialog that went beyond the perspectives of an individual story. Among other aspects, it was disclosed the existential pain of having a poverty status in the contemporary society. Such situation might lead to a total loss of references and to a gradual weakening of social and family bonds |
| Portuguese abstract | Neste artigo procuramos refletir sobre alguns impactos do sistema capitalista neoliberal na produção subjetiva daqueles que carregam a marca de estar na condição de pobreza socioeconômica. Para desenvolver esta reflexão, tomamos um caso paradigmático, ou seja, a história de uma – e, ao mesmo tempo, de muitas – usuária dos serviços de assistência social de uma região periférica de Porto Alegre/RS. Partimos das especificidades do cotidiano desta mulher e, através de suas atividades, de suas condições materiais no mundo e da expressão de seus sentimentos, estabelecemos um diálogo que extrapolou a perspectiva de uma história individual. Revelou, entre outros aspectos, a dor existencial decorrente da experiência de ocupar lugares de pobreza na sociedade contemporânea, o que pode levar inclusive a total perda de referências e o enfraquecimento gradual dos laços sociais com a sociedade e a família |
