| Spanish abstract | El proyecto Mayan Youngsters busca describir un modelo de transformación sociocultural basado en una intervención innovadora: la enseñanza del inglés sobre la base del maya. La hipótesis de la intervención es que por la interacción significativa de tres lenguas en un salón de clases, se logra la re-evaluación del maya en su rol vis-a-vis ante el español y el inglés, a través de la intervención co-constructora de los participantes en la educación multilingüe y, por lo tanto, la creación de un espacio social, cultural y político de expresión y auto-determinación de los participantes |
| English abstract | The Mayan Youngsters Project seeks to describe a model for sociocultural transformation based on an innovative intervention: Maya-based teaching of English. The hypothesis is that the significant interaction of three languages in the classrooms, will lead to a reevaluation of the Mayan language vis-a-vis to Spanish and English, through the co-constructive intervention of the participants in multilingual education and thus the creation of a socially, culturally, and politically relevant space of expression and self-determination |
