| Spanish abstract | La fotografía de Pedro Meyer —uno de los fotógrafos más afamados de México y América Latina— presenta un mundo creado y ya interpretado por el artista: fenómeno que se presta a una intensa elaboración semiótica de la imagen. Puesto que la conceptualización de la realidad invoca necesariamente cierto proceso constructivo, es preciso estudiar en Meyer tanto la construcción de la realidad mexicana como la construcción de la masculinidad, que ejerce mayor agencialidad en dicha realidad. Los elementos de la deconstrucción/ reconstrucción del género en Meyer se manifiestan mediante un énfasis en la porosidad/variabilidad de los esquemas hegemónicos que dictan la percepción de las identidades sociosexuales, colocándolo así en la vanguardia de la fotografía latinoamericana contemporánea |
| English abstract | The photography of Pedro Meyer, one of the most renowned photographers of Mexico and Latin America, presents a world that has already been created and interpreted by the artist: it is a phenomenon that lends itself to an intense semiotics of the image. Since the conceptualization of reality necessarily involves a certain constructive process, Meyer lends himself to study in terms of the construction of Mexican reality as well as the construction of masculinity that achieves its greatest degree of agency within that reality. The elements of deconstruction/reconstruction of gender in Meyer manifest themselves in terms of an emphasis on the porosity/ variability of the hegemonic patterns that dictate the perception of sociosexual identities, a process that places him in the vanguard of contemporary Latin American photography |
