| Spanish abstract | Se argumenta que la escuela es un motor fundamental de producción de la modernidad, a través de la formación de nuevas disposiciones, actitudes, prácticas y valores que orientan a los individuos. Primero, a partir de un conjunto de teorías sociológicas, se discute el proceso de modernización y los rasgos que han asumido los sistemas de enseñanza. | English abstract | It is argued that schools are the fundamental driving force for producing modernity, through creating new aptitudes, attitudes, practices, and values to orient individuals. Based on a series of sociological theories, this article first discusses the process of modernization and the traits that educational systems have taken on. Later, the author seeks to prove some hypotheses about the socializing role of schools in different regions of Europe using a statistical analysis based on European Social Survey 2008 data and taking into consideration variables like educational level, social class, generation, and region |
