| Spanish abstract | El sueño y la imaginación son dos temas constantes en la narrativa de Juan Carlos Onetti, que constituyen, desde sus primeros relatos, el origen de la elaboración formal. Onetti imbrica el fenómeno onírico con recursos heredados de la vanguardia literaria, como la fragmentación, la yuxtaposición de planos narrativos, el empleo del lenguaje del cine y la pintura, los cuales representan algún tipo de procedimiento metaficcional o intertextual. En este ensayo, pretendo analizar, en “Avenida de mayo-Diagonal-Avenida de mayo” y “El posible Baldi”, la manera en que sueño e imaginación se convierten en metatextos, que dan cabida a una mise en abyme en la forma del cuento dentro del cuento, al mismo tiempo que aluden a intertextos situados en los umbrales del relato: la novela de aventuras, ciertos filmes norteamericanos y los discursos de la pintura y del cine, considerados como modos de representar la aventura onírica, que es, en última instancia, la aventura literaria |
| English abstract | Dreams and imagination are constant themes in Juan Carlos Onetti’s narrative; they constitute, since his first short stories, the origin of the formal structure. Onetti interweaves them with narrative techniques inherited from the literary Avant-Garde such as fragmentation, juxtaposition of narrative levels, and the use of the language of film and painting; all of them representing a kind of metafictional or intertextual mechanism. In this paper, I propose to analyze, in “Avenida de Mayo-Diagonal-Avenida de Mayo” and “El Posible Baldi”, the way that dreams and imagination become a kind of metatext, that gives space for a mise en abyme with the form of “the story inside the story”, at the same time that those topics allude to intertexts placed in the boundary of the story, such as adventure novels, American Western movies and the discourses of film and painting; all of them understood as ways to represent the dreamlike adventure, which is, at the end, the literary adventure |
