| Spanish abstract | Este trabajo analiza la creación y distribución de las primeras viñas comerciales del obispado de Concepción y la evolución d e ellas durante el siglo XVII. Aquí se pretende profundizar las palabras de elogio de las cronistas sobre el vino de Concepción por medio de un estudio so bre las viñas exi stentes durante el siglo XVII. Se reunió información sobre ciento catorce viñas, la cual nos permite ver su ubicación, tamaño y formas de comercialización. Debido a esta información entramos en el mercado vinícola de la frontera, donde mir amos las formas de venta que hicieron los hacendados militares en ambos lados de la frontera. Confirmamos la importancia del vino como parte central de la dieta de los soldados e indios amigos y su posición como producto que movía toda la economía fronteriza del obispado de Concepción a lo largo del siglo XVII |
| English abstract | This article studies the creation and distribution of the first commercial vineyards in the region of Concepcion and their evolution during the seventeenth century. Here we hope to build upon the words of praise by Chile`s colonial historians of Concepcion`s colonial wine industry, by studying the vineyards th at existed during their lives. We were able to gather informat ion about one hundred and fourteen vineyards, which permit us to study their locatio n, size and commercialization. Thanks to this information we are now able to enter into the frontier wine industry, where we analyze how the military landowners sold their wine production to soldiers and Indians on both sides of the frontier. We also confirm the importance of wine, as the central part of the Chilean seventeenth century diet, for not only the soldiers and their families, but also for the indigenous population and its position as the central commodity that controlled the frontier economy of Concepcion during the seventeenth century |
