| Spanish abstract | El objetivo de este trabajo fue revisar la influencia del proyecto cultural alternativo anarquista en las acciones y en las obras de los Artistas del Pueblo, colecti vo de artistas “orilleros” que actuaron en el campo artístico porteño a principios del siglo veinte. Criados durante el auge del anarquismo en la Argentina, en los nuevos barrios periféricos de la ciudad de Buenos Aires en plena modernización, fueron el pr imer exponente de arte crítico y social local. A partir de la reivindicación de algunas estrategias anarquistas, como la apropiación de la cultura letrada y su resignificación en sentido contestatario, los Artistas del Pueblo fueron críticos de la cultura oficial de la Academia Nacional de Arte, de la vanguardia artística, pero también de la nueva industria cultural y su cultura de masas. Desde su accionar artístico revolucionario apostaron a la transformación social desde lo simbólico, mostrando en sus imá genes la contracara del imperialismo capitalista y su modernización urbana. Su obra fue un testimonio humanista de la vida del pueblo oprimido, que buscó contrarrestar el imaginario civilizatorio de la ciudad moderna que los criminalizaba y excluía. | English abstract | The objective of this work was to review the influence of the anarchist alternative cultural project on the actions and works of the Artists o f the People, a group of artists "orilleros" who acted in the artistic field of Buenos Aires at the beginning of the 20th century. Created during the rise of anarchism in Argentina, in the new outlying districts of the city of Buenos Aires in full moderniz ation, they were the first local exponent of critical and social art. From the vindication of some anarchist strategies, such as the appropriation of literate culture and its resignification in a contestatory sense, the Artists of the People were critical of the official culture of the National Academy of Art, of the Artistic Avant - gard, but also of the new Cultural Industry and its Mass Culture. From their revolutionary artistic action they bet on social transformation from the symbolic, showing in their i mages the counterpart of capitalist imperialism and its urban modernization. Their work was a humanist testimony of the life of the oppressed people who sought to counteract the civilizing imaginary of the modern city that criminalized and excluded them.
