| Spanish abstract | El presente artículo es una reflexión en torno al concepto de opinión pública, desvelando sus fuentes filosóficas y teóricas. El objetivo es analizar dicho concepto a la luz de los vasos comunicantes que guarda con la retórica y con la teoría de la argumentación. Para tal efecto se distingue entre doxa, episteme y alétheia. Se plantea que en toda sociedad sustentada en opiniones siempre existirán tensiones y contradicciones, de tal suerte que la opinión pública servirá para disuadir o reprimir el pensamiento individual |
| English abstract | This article is a reflection on public opinion concept, revealing its philosophical and theoretical sources. The objective is to analyze this concept in light of the links that keep the rhetoric and argumentation theory. To this end a distinction among doxa, episteme and aletheia is needed. We conclude that in every society supported by views there will always be tensions and contradictions in such a way that public opinion will serve to deter or suppress individual thought.
