In particular, English has become a universal language all over the world and has had a huge impact on several academic and professional fields. Therefore, not only has the teaching and learning of English as a foreign language (EFL), gained importance, but in particular, English for specific purposes (ESP). This article presents a case study that explores and identify engineering students" needs and demands by means of a Needs Analysis that involves interviews and surveys in order to design an ESP Reading Course. This inquiry included identifying needs to design an ESP course which may provide students with the essential tools in order to understand, and manage accurately, specialized information, which is relevant for their professional development.

Resumen en español En particular, el inglés se ha convertido en un idioma universal en todo el mundo y ha tenido un gran impacto en varias áreas académicas y profesionales. Por lo tanto, no solo ha ganado importancia la enseñanza y el aprendizaje del inglés como lengua extranjera (EFL), sino que también, el inglés con propósitos específicos (ESP). Este artículo presenta un estudio de caso que explora e identifica las necesidades y demandas de los estudiantes de ingeniería mediante un Análisis de Necesidades que involucra entrevistas y encuestas para diseñar un curso de lectura con inglés para propósitos específicos. Esta investigación incluyó la identificación de las necesidades para diseñar un curso ESP que pueda proporcionar a los estudiantes las herramientas esenciales para comprender y emplear con precisión información especializada, que es relevante para su desarrollo profesional.
