| English abstract | This article seeks to document the ambivalent legal policy of the Castilian Crown on the (dis)authorisation of the use of the Nahuatl language in New Spain.We propose as a thesis that this ambivalence was due to the fact that the Nahuatl language was used in New Spain as an instrument of power by both the King and the missionaries to implement a system of domestic social organization in which the indigenous people saw them as their protective parents |
| Other abstract | Este artículo pretende docu-mentar la política jurídica ambivalente de la corona castellana sobre la (des)au-torización del uso de la lengua náhuatl en la Nueva España.Nos planteamos como tesis que esta am-bivalencia se dio en razón a que la lengua náhuatl fue utilizada en la Nueva Espa-ña como un instrumento de poder tanto por el rey como por los misioneros para implementar un sistema de organización social doméstica en el que los indígenas los veían como sus padres protectores |
