| English abstract | The Tembé, said to be ‘from Santa Maria’, were until very recently not acknowledged as Tenetehara and somehow are still not recognized as such. Their stories have re - mained ‘on hold’ for over 100 years as one of the outlooks of the ‘cordial’ ethnocide. Just over 10 years ago, they began to hear and learn narratives produced by others about them, and in the fight for beating invisibility they started to call themselves Tembé, paying a high price for the ‘resis - tance’. This paper discusses from the speakers (1) the ‘inherited’ stories (pro - duced by others to aid their fight; (2) the indigenous narratives about the paths taken to Santa Maria; and (3) the appro - priation the Tembé make out of the ‘in - heritance’ and the narratives producing the identity ‘resistance’ strings, including the requirement for anthropologists to make their history, as if they could not produce their version. Would these be new ways of making History? |
| Portuguese abstract | Os Tembé, ditos ‘de Santa Maria’, até re - centemente não eram reconhecidos como Tenetehara, situação que, de certa forma, ainda perdura. Por mais de 100 anos suas histórias permaneceram ‘em suspenso’, como uma das faces do etnocídio ‘cordial’. Há pouco mais de 10 anos, eles começa - ram a ouvir e a aprender narrativas pro - duzidas por terceiros sobre si e, na luta por vencer a invisibilidade, passam a se afirmar Tembé pagando o alto preço da ‘resistência’. Discutem-se a partir dos in - terlocutores (1) as histórias ‘herdadas’ (produzidas por terceiros para auxiliar a luta); (2) as narrativas indígenas sobre os trajetos feitos até Santa Maria; e (3) a apropriação que os Tembé fazem da ‘he - rança’ e das narrativas produzindo os fios da ‘resistência’ identitária, até mesmo re - querendo que antropólogos produzam a sua história, como se eles não pudessem apresentar sua versão. Teríamos aí novas formas de fazer História? |
