| Spanish abstract | A comienzos del siglo XX, en la ciudad de Pasto convergió una élite intelectual que se había formado en las luchas por conseguir la autonomía para la región en las últimas décadas del siglo XIX. Esta élite compartía el ideal de progreso y el ímpetu modernizador propio de la época en Latinoamérica, y se propuso introducir modificaciones radicales en las pautas de desarrollo social y en la vida de la ciudad, enfatizando en el aspecto de la infraestructura vial y el comercio. Para llevar a efecto tales cambios consideró que lo más adecuado era formar las nuevas generaciones dentro del modelo de sociedad deseado y creó la Universidad de Nariño con la Facultad de Matemáticas e Ingeniería y la de Comercio. Como forma de difundir el pensamiento, estuvo muy ligada al estudio de la historia regional, el periodismo y las instituciones de educación secundaria y superior |
| English abstract | At the beginning XX century, in the Pasto city an intellectual elite converged that had formedin the fights to obtain the autonomy for the region in the last decades of century XIX. This elite shared the ideal of progress and the own modernized impetus of the time in Latin America, and one seted out to introduce radical modifications in the guidelines of social development and the life of the city, emphasizing in the aspect of the road infrastructure and the commerce. In order to take to effect such changes it considered that the most suitable era to form the new generations within the wished model of society and created the Nariño University with the Faculty of Mathematics and Engineering and the one of Commerce. As it forms to spread the thought, very it was bound to the study of regional history, the media education and the institutions of secondary and superior education |
