| English abstract | The goal of this paper is to analyze the tension between fact and fiction in journalism. Interview is a basic data collection procedure used in journalism. There is no question then that statements and oral reports are the main sources for articles and news coverage. Every interview deals with oral recollection and memory is always selective and imaginative. Therefore, while journalism is committed to showing the “truth” in an objective, impartial, transparent way, it cannot escape from the imagination of its sources, with forgetfulness, deletion and redefinitions. We will gather some discussions about the role of the journalism and will open dialogue with reflections from other fields of study. These reflections point towards an understanding of the texts as empathy facilitators and as possibilities of being in touch with life experiences and myth biographies, which would go beyond the informative role |
| Portuguese abstract | O objetivo é analisar a tensão entre verdade e ficção no jornalismo. A entrevista é o procedimento básico de coleta de dados no jornalismo e é, através de declarações e relatos, a principal fonte de elaboração de reportagens e notícias. Acontece que toda entrevista lida com a rememoração oral e a memória é sempre seletiva e imaginativa. Assim, o jornalismo, ao mesmo tempo em que promete mostrar a “verdade”, de forma objetiva, imparcial, transparente, não pode escapar da fecundidade das fontes que utiliza, com esquecimentos, eliminações, recriações e ressignificações. Tentaremos recuperar aqui algumas discussões sobre o papel do jornalismo e dialogar com reflexões de outros campos que enfrentam a mesma tensão. Essas reflexões apontam na direção de um entendimento dos textos como facilitadores da empatia, possibilidades de contato com “experiências” de vida, com mitobiografias.
