| Spanish abstract | Es un hecho que la muerte sigue siendo compañera indisoluble de la vida. Muchos de los enfermos son diagnosticados en períodos avanzados de la enfermedad, o el curso de la misma, desembocará en la denominada etapa terminal de la enfermedad. Los cuidados paliativos se oponen en general al paradigma de la curación como el propósito fundamental del ejercicio médico. El dolor y otros síntomas no se limitan al aspecto orgánico, sino que abarcan desde la experiencia personal del que lo sufre hasta la forma en la que la evidencia del síntoma afecta a los familiares y al personal de salud |
