| Spanish abstract | Este artículo muestra la importancia y la influencia que ha tenido la Educación Intercultural Bilingüe en la construcción del Estado plurinacional e intercultural en el Ecuador, así como las contradicciones y tensiones que se generan en el sistema educativo frente al llamado del establecimiento de espacios de diálogo entre conocimientos tradicionales y científicos. A través del caso de la Universidad Comunitaria Intercultural de Nacionalidades y Pueblos Indígenas Amawtay Wasi (UINPI-AW) se hace evidente que, más allá del discurso, la interculturalidad es aún un concepto por comprender. | English abstract | This article demonstrates the influence and importance of Intercultural Bilingual Education in the plurinational and intercultural state-building process in Ecuador. It also highlights the tensions and contradictions generated within the Ecuadorian educational system, when faced with the task of creating spaces for dialogue between scientific and traditional knowledge systems. The analysis of the Universidad Comunitaria Intercultural de Nacionalidades y Pueblos Indígenas Amawtay Wasi (UINPI-AW) makes clear that, beyond state discourse, interculturality is still a concept under construction.
