| English abstract | This text is an effort of rescuing the memory of the Center of Research and extension of the Department of Education (Nupe) from documents, reports, proposals, catalogues and journals of education aiming to narrate the process of creation of this organ and the philosophy that based the team accountable for its construction. It presents the definitions of research and extension and substantiates the creation of the Center on the basis of the educational legislation. It´s main objective is to restore the memory of the Nupe pointing the most important events and describing their circumstances. It also aims to build an identity process to this sector from the actions and activities implemented, as well as the projects developed in the eighteen years of existence of the Center. The pertinence of this work inscribes itself in a broad movement of valorization of the memory of education, detaching the formation of professors as central axis of the argument. Denounces the negative aspects concerning the difficulties, misconceptions, problems and obstacles and announces the positive aspects regarding proposals and suggestions for improvement in the action and the articulation of the Nupe in the academic context. | Portuguese abstract | Trata-se de um resgate da memória do Núcleo de Pesquisa e de Extensão (Nupe) do Departamento de Educação (DEDC) a partir de documentos da época, como relatórios, propostas, catálogos, revistas em educação visando relatar o processo de criação deste órgão e a filosofia que embasava a equipe responsável pela sua construção. Apresenta as definições de pesquisa e de extensão e fundamenta a criação do Núcleo com base na legislação educacional. Tem como objetivo principal restaurar a memória do Nupe pontuando os acontecimentos mais importantes e descrevendo as circunstâncias em que estes se sucederam. Objetiva também construir o processo identitário deste setor a partir das ações e atividades implementadas, bem como, dos projetos desenvolvidos nestes dezoito anos de sua existência. A pertinência deste trabalho inscreve-se em um amplo movimento de valorização da memória da educação, destacando a formação de professores como eixo central da discussão. Denuncia os aspectos negativos concernentes às dificuldades, equívocos, problemas e entraves e anuncia os aspectos positivos referentes às propostas e sugestões para melhorar a atuação e a articulação do Nupe no contexto acadêmico.
