| English abstract | This essay aims to offer a point of view on the neuropsychological evaluation of the elderly with mild cognitive impairment, paying essential attention to the use of cognitive screening instruments. Mild cognitive impairment is an entity that entails a complex diagnostic process, whose guidelines are poorly systematized, although there is a certain consensus regarding those elements that must be evaluated: presence of subjective cognitive impairment; presence of objective cognitive impairment; absence of significant functional impairment; and the control of certain variables such as depression, anxiety and the level of acquired cognitive reserve. Neuropsychology is called to assume the process of neuropsychological evaluation with the highest quality indices, and with the use of an arsenal of knowledge and instruments that allow effective evaluation and diagnosis, through criteria of reliability, validity, sensitivity and specificity. |
| Spanish abstract | El presente ensayo pretende ofrecer un punto de vista sobre la evaluación neuropsicológica del adulto mayor con deterioro cognitivo leve, y presta esencial atención al uso de instrumentos de screening cognitivo. El deterioro cognitivo leve constituye una entidad que conlleva un proceso de diagnóstico complejo, cuyas pautas se encuentran escasamente sistematizadas, aunque existe cierto consenso en cuanto a aquellos elementos que deben ser evaluados: presencia de deterioro cognitivo subjetivo; presencia de deterioro cognitivo objetivo; ausencia de deterioro funcional significativo; y el control de ciertas variables como la depresión, la ansiedad y el nivel de reserva cognitiva adquirida. La neuropsicología está llamada a asumir el proceso de evaluación neuropsicológica con los más altos índices de calidad, y con el empleo de un arsenal de conocimientos e instrumentos que permitan la evaluación y diagnósticos efectivos, a través de criterios de confiabilidad, validez, sensibilidad y especificidad. |
