| English abstract | The present article intends to identify the professional projects elaborated by american architects and debated in the Pan American Congresses of Architects between 1920 and 1930. The realization of the Congresses indicates the transnational necessity of professional legitimation and allows to understand how a place for architecture –and for the american architect – was forged in the debate about technocracy. The construction of these political architectures was based on strategies that aimed to relate architecture, city and culture through politics. The implementation of this agenda has, in turn, consolidated a pan american professional network from which ideas flowed. |
| Portuguese abstract | O presente artigo pretende identificar os projetos profissionais elaborados por arquitetos americanos e debatidos nos Congressos Pan-Americanos de Arquitetos entre 1920 e 1930. A realização dos Congressos indica a necessidade transnacional de legitimação profissional e permite entender como foi forjado um lugar para a arquitetura – e para o arquiteto americano – em meio aos debates sobre tecnocracia. A construção dessas arquiteturas políticas se assentava em estratégias que tinham como objetivo relacionar, arquitetura, cidade e cultura por meio da política. A implementação dessa agenda consolidou, por sua vez, uma rede profissional pan-americana a partir da qual transitavam ideias. |
