| English abstract | Martha Vannucci (1921- ) was a scientist who devoted herself to the study of biological oceanography by acting at the Oceanographic Institute of the University of São Paulo. Her scientific activities has made a significant contribution to the process of institutionalization of oceanographic sciences in Brazil. This text is only a preliminary attempt to write about her career at that institutional loci, trying to set her up in a broader contexts related to the consolidation of scientific practices in Brazil, and the situation of the women who look for establishing themselves in the science field, in the period of the 40s to the 60s of the 20th century. |
| Portuguese abstract | Martha Vannucci (1921- ) foi uma cientista que se dedicou aos estudos da oceanografia biológica. Suas atividades científicas deram uma contribuição significativa para o processo de institucionalização das ciências oceanográficas no Brasil, ao atuar no Instituto Oceanográfico da Universidade de São Paulo. Este texto é uma tentativa preliminar de escrever sobre sua trajetória naquele lócus institucional, buscando situá-la em contextos mais amplos relacionados à consolidação das práticas científicas no Brasil, e à situação das mulheres que buscavam se firmar no campo das ciências, no período dos anos quarenta a sessenta do século XX. |
