| English abstract | The Parliamentary Democratic Action (ADP) was a political group in Brazil between 1961 and 1964. With a strong anticommunist aim, the parliamentary front brought together around of 150 congressmen. Among these deputies, there were five members of Catholic Church: monsignor Alfredo de Arruda Câmara and the priests Godinho, Medeiros Neto, Nobre and Vidigal. The aim is analyzing the anticommunist rhetoric, starting from the hypothesis that these discourses strengthened the association between national reformism proposed by the political left and anti-Christian values. The main source for this paper will be in the Congress. Besides, the books which were written by these congressmen will also be analyzed as the articles in newspapers and magazines. This paper emphasizes that putting together the anticommunist rhetoric to religious principles, the ecclesiastical congressmen of ADP contributed to polarization in the 1960’s |
| Portuguese abstract | Ação Democrática Parlamentar (ADP) foi um bloco suprapartidário que atuou no Brasil entre 1961 e 1964. Com viés anticomunista, a frente parlamentar reuniu cerca de 150 deputados federais. Dentre estes, havia cinco membros da Igreja Católica: Monsenhor Arruda Câmara e os padres Godinho, Medeiros Neto, Nobre e Vidigal. Analisa-se a retórica anticomunista desses clérigos, partindo da hipótese de que tal discurso associou o que era proposto pelas esquerdas a valores anticristãos. A principal fonte se encontra no Congresso Nacional. Livros escritos por esses deputados também serão analisados, tal como artigos em jornais e revistas. O trabalho pontua que, ao congregar uma retórica anticomunista a princípios religiosos, os clérigos da ADP contribuíram para acentuar a polarização da década de 1960 |
