English abstract Cell nucleus represents the natural environment for the eukaryotic genome. The progress on fluorescent reagents for molecular labeling and fluorescence microscopy revealed the nucleus and the genome spatial compartmentalization demonstrating that the cell nucleus is much more complex than previously anticipated. It is well established that transcription and splicing are nuclear processes but today the nucleus needs to be seen as a more dynamic organelle where chromosomes are confined to specific territories and with dynamic re-localization of chromatin fibers inducing inter-chromosomal and intra-chromosomal interactions. This modern view of the eukaryotic cell nucleus illustrates its contribution at multiple levels to genetic and epigenetic regulation
