| English abstract | This paper presents various interpretations of the functions and use of public space that specialists have carried out in previous investigations, as well as the normative and technical provisions considered at the federal level, the State of Mexico, and in particular the municipality of Toluca. To know to what extent there is a congruence between the conceptual framework and the use conferred on it by the population regularly. To comply with the above, two emblematic places in the Historic Center of the City of Toluca were chosen as study areas: Parque Alameda Central "Cuauhtémoc" and Simón Bolívar Garden. As part of the fieldwork, the Perception of Insecurity Survey (ENSPEIN) was applied, which aimed to obtain data on the site and geo-reference responses immediately through the use of mobile devices. Among the results, it is worth noting that public spaces fulfill the function of meeting place, most users have a passive recreation and feel safe during the morning and afternoon. |
| Spanish abstract | Este artículo presenta diversas interpretaciones de las funciones y el uso del espacio público, que especialistas han investigado previamente; así como de las disposiciones normativas y técnicas consideradas a nivel federal, en el Estado de México y, en particular, en el municipio de Toluca, a fin de conocer en qué medida existe congruencia entre el marco conceptual y el uso que le confiere la población de manera habitual. Para ello, se eligieron como zonas de estudio dos lugares emblemáticos en el Centro Histórico de la Ciudad de Toluca: Parque Alameda Central "Cuauhtémoc" y Jardín Simón Bolívar. Como parte del trabajo de campo, se aplicó la Encuesta sobre la Percepción de Inseguridad (ENSPEIN), con el objetivo de obtener datos en el sitio y geo referenciar las respuestas de manera inmediata a través del uso de dispositivos móviles. Entre los resultados destaca que los espacios públicos cumplen la función de lugar de encuentro; en su mayoría, los usuarios tienen una recreación pasiva y se sienten seguros durante la mañana y la tarde. |
