| Spanish abstract | Este artículo tiene un doble objetivo. Por un lado, se propone reflexionar sobre la relación entre discurso epidíctico, argumentación, polémica e ideología; por el otro, analizar esta problemática en dos discursos epidícticos que Fidel Castro pronunció en torno al Che Guevara. La relación entre discurso epidíctico, argumentación y polémica ha sido objeto de interpretaciones contrapuestas. En particular, si este género oratorio busca o no el cambio pragmático de una situación, si apoya o no una acción y si es ajeno o no a la polémica. La función ideológica del discurso epidíctico, en cambio, ha generado mayor acuerdo. El artículo se refiere primero a estas cuestiones planteadas sobre el género epidíctico para luego centrarse en el análisis del discurso que Fidel Castro pronunció el 18 de octubre de 1967 en la Plaza de la Revolución, de La Habana, con motivo de la muerte en combate de Ernesto Che Guevara, en contraste con el que formuló, en Pinar del Río y en ocasión de la inauguración de una fábrica, el 8 de octubre de 1987, en el acto central del XX aniversario de la ejecución del Che |
| English abstract | This paper has a double objective. On the one hand, its goal is to consider the relationship between epidictic discourse, argumentation, polemic, and ideology; on the other hand, it aims to analyse this problematic in two epidictic discourses given by Fidel Castro regarding Che Guevara. The relationship between epidictic discourse, argumentation, and polemic has been understood in opposing ways. Specifically, the controversies are whether this oratorical genre searches a pragmatic change of a situation or not, whether it supports an action or not, and whether it is alien to polemic or not. Instead, the ideological function of epidictic discourse has generated greater agreemen. The paper first addresses these issues raised about the epidictic genre. It then focuses on the analysis of the epidictic discourse given by Fidel Castro on October 18th 1967 at the Plaza de la Revolución in La Habana concerning the death in battle of Ernesto Che Guevara, in opposition to the discourse Fidel gave on October 8th 1987 in Pinar del Río at a factory’s inauguration for the XXth anniversary of Che’s execution |
