| Spanish abstract | Este artículo sobre el Palacio Arzobispal de Mérida (Venezuela), parte de un enfoque histórico que no sólo abarca la edificación, sino también el entorno cultural que motivó la erección de este edifi cio, por ende, la investigación es principalmente de origen documental, sustentada en la opinión hemerográfica de la época, sumado a las consideraciones críticas y académicas que giran alrededor del Palacio buscando alguna identifi cación de estilo. El estudio histórico del Palacio Arzobispal de la ciudad de Mérida, en especial su gestación y contexto cultural, obliga a considerar al edificio como transformador primordial de la idea de ciudad –como palimpsesto cultural–, además de contribuir a la discusión entre lo internacional y lo local de la arquitectura y la sociedad que la edifica |
| English abstract | This article on the Palace of the Archbishopric of Merida (Venezuela), emerge of a historical focus that doesn’t only involve the construction, as well as the cultural environment that motivated the erection of this building, consequently, the investigation is mainly of documental origin, sustained in the journalistic opinion of the time, added to the critical and academic considerations that turn around the Palace looking for some identification of style. The Palace Archbishopric’s historical study, especially its gestation and cultural context, it force to consider to the building like primordial modifier of city’s idea –as cultural palimpsest–, besides contributing to the discussion between the international and the local of the architecture and the society that it builds it |
