| Spanish abstract | A mediados del siglo pasado se inicia la discusión en cuanto a la conveniencia de aplicar los términos aculturación o transculturación, a la hora de referirse al problema del contacto cultural. En los albores del nuevo milenio aparece la propuesta de un método para contribuir al estudio del proceso de aculturación. Terciaremos en la polémica analizando el complejo religioso denominado Santería, específicamente el culto de Santa Bárbara y Changó, en este caso nos parece apropiado hablar de transculturación ya que la partícula trans traduce de manera fidedigna ese cambio o mudanza de unas culturas a otra, en nuestro caso, una cultura completamente diferente a las que le dieron vida: ni europeos, ni “indios”, ni africanos, simplemente: “los otros” o mejor, nosotros |
| English abstract | The discussion about whether or not it is convenient to use the terms acculturation and transculturation started half way through last century, when referring to the issue of cultural contact. The proposal of a method for contributing with the study of the acculturation process appeared at the beginning of the new millennium. We will intervene on the controversy by analyzing the religious complex called Santería, specifically the cult of Santa Bárbara and Changó. On this case it seems appropriate to talk about transculturation since the particle trans translates reliably to the change or move from some cultures to another, in our case; a completely different culture from those from which it was born: nor Europeans, nor “Indians”, nor Africans, simply: “the others” or better yet, us |
