| Spanish abstract | En la primera mitad del siglo XIX, un grupo de intelectuales argentinos debate sobre la conformación cultural de la incipiente nación. La disputa entre clásicos y románticos ocupa un papel relevante en este debate. En la discusión se mezclan intereses políticos, además de estéticos. En ese escenario, Esteban Echeverría, Juan Bautista Alberdi y Florencio Varela, entre otros, for jan identidades propias y ajenas, atravesadas por significados ambiguos, que obligan a pensar las fronteras como espacios flexibles. | English abstract | In the first half of the 19th Century a group of intellectuals discuss about the cultural conformation of the incipient nation. The dispute between Classicists and Romantics plays a key role in this debate. Politicals and aesthetics interest combine in the discussion. In this scene Esteban Echeverría, Juan Bautista Alberdi and Florencio Varela, among others, shape complexes identities with ambiguous meanings.
