| English abstract | The objective of this article is to provoke discussion about the access of organized society to formal politics, using the example of women. In the author’s view, it is not sufficient that we know the extent to which associativism is transforming society and Brazilian political culture in ways never experienced in our political history. It is necessary to evaluate whether we are building bridges between movements and formal politics, seeking to elucidate the impact of associativism on institutions and decisory processes. The author recommends that instead of aiming to reduce the Brazilian social diversity that excludes the women’s movement from politics, this movement should be used as a material example of the problem of participation on the part of civil society and its impact on representation. To this end, the author uses empirical arguments based on aggregate data and statements resulting from interviews with feminist leaders in the country |
| Portuguese abstract | O objetivo do artigo é provocar uma discussão sobre o acesso da sociedade organizada à política formal, utilizando para esse exercício o segmento das mulheres. A nosso ver, não é suficiente sabermos o quanto o associativismo vem transformando a sociedade e a cultura política brasileira em níveis jamais vivenciados em nossa história política. Outro objetivo é avaliar se estamos construindo a ponte entre os movimentos e a política formal, procurando saber qual o impacto do associativismo sobre as instituições e processos decisórios. Longe de pretendermos reduzir a diversidade dos segmentos sociais brasileiros excluídos da política ao das mulheres, poderemos utilizá-lo como um exemplo material do problema da participação da sociedade civil e de seus reflexos sobre a representação. Para tanto, utilizamos argumentos empíricos, com base em dados agregados e depoimentos colhidos por meio de entrevistas com lideranças feministas do país |
