| Spanish abstract | Tras los fallidos intentos por lograr la unidad latinoamericana en el siglo XIX, Estados Unidos comenzó a utilizar la idea de la integración como un medio para lograr sus intereses en América Latina. Bajo esta perspectiva aparece el concepto Panamericanismo en 1889. Desde entonces y hasta la actualidad, consti-tuye una herramienta fundamental en la relación de Estados Unidos y los países latinoamericanos. Bajo la bandera del Panamericanismo se fundó la OEA; organización que utilizan para justificar sus intromisiones en asuntos internos de los países del área. En consecuencia, el Panamericanismo constituye un instrumen-to de subyugación, estrechamente relacionado con la Doctrina Monroe. El mismo está asociado a móviles colonizadores y/ o expansivos, no solo territorialmente, sino desde el punto de vista ideológico y cultural, todo ello como expresión del marcado nacionalismo y proteccionismo norteamericano. | English abstract | Following failed attempts to achieve Latin American unity in the nineteenth century, the United States began to use the idea of integration as a means to achieve its interests in Latin America. Under this per-spective appears the concept of Pan-Americanism in 1889. Since then and until today, it has been a funda-mental tool in the relationship between the United States and Latin American countries. Under the banner of Pan-Americanism, the OAS was founded; organization that they use to justify their interference in the internal affairs of the countries of the area. Consequently, Pan-Americanism constitutes an instrument of subjugation, closely related to the Monroe Doctrine. It is associated with colonizing and or expansive mo-tives, not only territorially, but from the ideological and cultural point of view. All this as an expression of the marked American nationalism and protectionism. As a counterpart, there are real integration alterna-tives. Such is the case of organizations such as ALBA, among others |
