| English abstract | This article aims at analyzing the issue regarding the permanence of prophetical inspiration in the Church as it was defended by Father Antonio Vieira (1608 – 1697) in the course of his inquisitorial process. By means of the analysis of the works written in the context of this process, one tries to show that Vieira defends the veracity of the Trovas [poems] of a Portuguese cobbler called Bandarra (1500 – 1556) , going against the decrees concerning prophetical revelation especially from the Fifth Lateran Council (1512 – 1517) and the Council of Trent (1545-1563). Hence one realizes an opposition between the Catholic Church policies as to the subject and the practices which effectively took place in the catholic world, mainly in sixteenth and seventeenth centuries Portugal |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo busca analisar o problema da permanência do espírito profético na Igreja conforme defendido por Padre Antônio Vieira (1608 – 1697) durante seu processo inquisitorial. Por meio da análise de obras compostas no contexto desse processo, procura-se mostrar que Vieira defende a veracidade das Trovas do sapateiro português Bandarra (1500 – 1556) na contramão dos decretos a respeito da questão da revelação profética que vinham especialmente do Quinto Concílio de Latrão (1512 – 1517) e do Concílio de Trento (1545- 1563). Assim, o que se percebe, a partir desse caso, é um descompasso entre a política da Igreja quanto ao tema e as práticas que efetivamente tinham lugar no mundo católico, especialmente no Portugal dos séculos XVI e XVII |
