| Spanish abstract | El proyecto Agroecosistema UAYMACO tuvo como unidad de investigación y acción participativa a la Comunidad de Misintá ubicada en el Municipio Rangel del estado Mérida, Venezuela. Mediante un diagnóstico participativo, se identificó como problema la pérdida de cuiba y ruba, ambos antiguos tubérculos endémicos del altiplano andino. Por tanto, el objetivo fue propagar y reinsertar estas especies en Misintá, donde antaño ambas eran consumidas y valoradas, pero nunca cultivadas ni protegidas, trayendo como consecuencia su pérdida del entorno. Aunque la ruba todavía se consume y se aprecia, se trae de otros lugares. La metodología empleada fue la Investigación-Acción-Participativa y la siembra se realizó con la metodología agroecológica en una huerta a 3300 msnm. De 2015 a 2018, se realizaron cuatro ciclos de siembra en las dos temporadas: la lluviosa y la seca. El resultado de la producción de cuiba fue de 4,4 Kg a partir de 1 kg de semilla y de ruba fue de 6,6 Kg a partir de 1 Kg de semilla. Además, se realizaron actividades de divulgación tales como: una presentación de las características e importancia de estos tubérculos en una Asamblea Comunitaria, el dictado de cuatro talleres agroecológicos y la elaboración de un recetario. Estas actividades motivaron a algunos de los agricultores locales a cultivar estas especies para la venta o la elaboración de otros productos, estimulando una cadena productiva, especialmente para las mujeres como parte del proceso de reinserción comunitaria de los tubérculos en Misintá |
| English abstract | The UAYMACO Agro-Ecosystem Project had the Misintá community, located in Rangel Municipality, Mérida state, Venezuela, as unit of research and participative action. Through a participative diagnosis, the loss of cuiba and ruba, both ancient endemic tubers of the Andean highlands, was identified as a problem. Therefore, the objective was the propagation and grow-back of those species in Misintá, where long ago both were consumed and valued, but never cultivated or protected, bringing as a consequence its loss from the surroundings. Even though the ruba is still consumed and appreciated, is brought from other places. The methodology employed was Research-Action-Participative and the sowing was done with agro-ecological methodology in an orchard at 3300 meters over sea level. From 2015 to 2018 four sowing cycles were held in the two seasons: the rainy and the dry one. The production result for cuiba was 4,4 Kg from 1 Kg seed, and for ruba was 6,6 Kg from 1 Kg seed. Moreover, some outreach activities were done: a presentation of characteristics and the importance of the tubercles in a Community Assembly, four agro-ecological workshops and a recipe book.
