| English abstract | Th e ar ti cl e se ek s to re fl ec t on th e po ss ib il it ie s of Ch ri st ia ni ty in th e po st - mo de rn co nt ex t, th e pr in ci pa l ch ar ac te ri st ic of wh ic h is de fi ne d as ni hi li sm , a fu n- damental trait of the philosophies of Nietzsche and Heidegger. The hypothesis presented starts from the presupposition that the abandonment of classical metaphysics not only presents a threat to Christian faith but also challenges it to form a new conf igur atio n. The phil osop her Gian ni Vatt imo comp ares Chri stia nity to Nihili sm, showin g to Christ ians a possib le path, even when Christ ians do not accept all the presuppositi ons of his philosophy. Christian faith finds in its mystical dimension the elements which it needs to face the challenges of nihilism, because its practical and existential aspect has more possibilities of speaking to the contemporary person than its metaphysical discourse. Many mystics face the “nothing” in their search for God, showing that nihilism is not foreign to the experience of God |
| Portuguese abstract | O artigo busca refletir as chances do cristianismo no contexto pós-moder- no , cu ja ca ra ct er ís ti ca pr in ci pa l se de fi ne co mo ni il is mo , tr aç o fu nd am en ta l da s filoso fias de Nietzs che e Heideg ger. A hipóte se aprese ntada parte do pressu posto de que o abando no da metafí sica clássi ca não repres enta soment e uma ameaça à fé cristã, mas lhe desafia a uma nova configuração . O filósofo Gianni Vattimo apro- xima cristianismo e niilismo, apontando para os cristãos um caminho possível, mesmo se os cristãos não acolhem todos os pressupostos de sua filosofia.
