| Spanish abstract | This paper examines the meaning of the sharp change of migrationpolicy in Mexico in mid-2019. The purpose of the change was to exertgreater control of migrants and borders. The paper starts by contrastingthis change with the initial positions of President López Obrador"sgovernment; positions close to humanitarian and human rights perspectives.Then, it explores short-term effects and potential long-termimplications, in terms of opportunities and challenges of such a change,it also examines future directions of Mexican migration policy in thecontext of a new government in the United States. |
