English abstract The difficulties of the 7th grade students of the Kwanza Norte province in Angola regarding the calculation with rational numbers motivated the realization of this study. This was done with the aim of knowing the causes that adversely affect the detected problem. It was carried out under the structure of a design supported by the Didactic Engineering, the application of techniques and instruments of this methodology combined with a case study, which allowed to fulfill the proposed objective and determine the most influential causes that affect learning of the students. The work developed allowed to conclude that the objectives of the Mathematics program at the referred level, with respect to the learning of the rational numbers, are not met with all the required quality, and the most influential causes, among others, that affect the learning process they are: large number of students in each school group, lack of methodological actions supported by scientific conceptions for learning and the limited use of technologies.
Spanish abstract Las dificultades de los alumnos del 7o grado de la provincia Kwanza Norte en Angola en cuanto al cálculo con números racionales motivaron la realización del presente estudio. Este se realizó con el objetivo de conocer las causas que inciden desfavorablemente en el problema detectado. Se llevó a cabo bajo la estructura de un diseño apoyado en la Ingeniería Didáctica, la aplicación de técnicas e instrumentos propios de esta metodología conjugada con un estudio de caso, que permitieron cumplir con el objetivo propuesto y determinar las causas más influyentes que afectan el aprendizaje de los alumnos. El trabajo desarrollado permitió concluir que los objetivos del programa de Matemática en el nivel referido, con respecto al aprendizaje de los números racionales, no se cumplen con toda la calidad requerida, y las causas más influyentes, entre otras, que afectan el proceso de aprendizaje son: gran número de alumnos en cada grupo escolar, faltas de acciones metodológicas apoyadas en las concepciones científicas para el aprendizaje y el limitado uso de las tecnologías.
