| Spanish abstract | Una de las inquietudes a lo largo de la vida de James Galbraith es la búsqueda del orígen de la desigualdad y la inequidad. En este artículo el autor recrea sobre la hipótesis de Kuznets quién elaboró una aproximación cuantitativa a la evolución de las desigualdades económicas en el proceso de industrialización a mediados de los años cincuenta para actualizar el pensamiento sobre las desigualdades hasta antes del curso de la crisis. No obstante, que el autor hace alusión al reciente libro Inequidad y Inestabilidad (2012) donde explica los antecedentes de la desigualdad entre los países europeos. Se hace alusión a otros modelos para explicar la hipótesis central haciendo alusión al cambio tecnológico y el trabajo calificado. | English abstract | One of the chief concerns of James Galbraith has been the search for the origin of inequality and inequity during the last decades. In this article, the author returns to the hypothesis of Kuznets, who elaborated a quantitative approximation for the evolution of economic inequalities en the process of industrialization during the fifties in order to bring the thinking up to date as it relates to inequalities even before the current crisis. The author also alludes to the recent book Inequality and Instability (2012) in which he explains the historical context of inequality among European countries. Other models are mentioned in the explanation of the central hypothesis, taking into consideration technological change and qualified workforces.
