English abstract The purpose of this research, was to associate the presence of oral piercing and oral conditions as risk factors of the gingival recession in students between 12 and 17 years old, who attended the ¨Simon Bolivar¨ educative unit, in Naguanagua, Carabobo state. It is a field descriptive study, with non experimental and transversal design. The population was 1600 students and the sample 94, and included both genders. The gingival recession was measured with periodontal probe. The clinical examination was based in simplified oral hygiene index (OHI-S) and plaque control (O’Leary index). Descriptive statistics and Spearman correlation was applied. Gingival recession prevalence was 49%, 25% of the sample used oral piercing and 79,2% of them had gingival recession .More of them had an Satisfactory OHI-S; and according to O´Leary index, all of them presented maximal range of bacterial plaque. There was a significative positive correlation between the studied variables. The conclution of this study is that the use of oral piercing associated to inadequate oral hygiene increases the gingival recession prevalence. Recommendations are to educate the population, mainly in people that are between 12 and 17 years old, about the adverse effects of using oral piercing
