| Spanish abstract | Michelle Bachelet se impuso en las elecciones presidenciales de 2006 porque expresaba una combinación de continuidad (con los gobiernos de la Concertación) y cambio (por su condición de mujer y su promesa de renovar el gabinete). Desde que asumió, sin embargo, diversos episodios no previstos provocaron una caída de su popularidad: las protestas estudiantiles, la caótica implementación del Transantiago y la indecisión en algunos temas claves la han forzado a implementar dos cambios de gabinete en menos de un año y medio de gobierno. El artículo sostiene que Bachelet, sin descuidar las señales de cambio, debe recuperar la esencia de la Concertación, la gestión eficiente de una economía social de mercado y el sólido respaldo de los partidos políticos que integran la coalición |
| English abstract | Michelle Bachelet won the 2006 presidential elections because she represented a combination of continuity (with the previous Concertación governments) and change (as a woman and with her promise to renew the cabinet). Since assuming the presidency, however, different unforeseen events have provoked a fall in her popularity rating: the student protests, the chaotic implementation of the Transantiago transport system and indecision in the face of several key problems have forced her to introduce two cabinet changes in less than a year and a half. This article argues that Bachelet, without abandoning the impulse in favor of changes, needs to recover the essential characteristics of the Concertación, the efficient management of social market economy and the solid backing of the political parties which make up the coalition |
