| Spanish abstract | En el análisis de cualquier discurso público no se debe pasar por alto la tarea básica de distin - guir el tipo de opiniones afirmadas por los “oradores”. Las hay sobre lo factual y sobre lo factible, tanto en términos de acontecimientos como de acciones humanas, asi como sobre el valor de estas dimensiones, y sobre el proceso de la toma de decisio nes. Este deslinde es importante porque cada tipo de opinión se enfrenta a exigencias argumenta tivas distintas. Se debe además sopesar, según sean estas opiniones, su relevancia e incumbencia retóricas dentro del debate. Estas responsabilidades elementales en el análisis retórico se ilustran en este artículo con el discurso público sobre la migración entre México y Estados Unidos |
| English abstract | An analysis of any public discourse is not complete without addressing the basic task of distinguishing between the kinds of opinions expressed by the “speakers.” There are opinions about what is factual and what is feasible both in terms of events, and in terms of human actions, about the value of the factual and the feasible, and about the decision-making process. This distinction is important because every type of opinion requires different kinds of arguments. It is also necessary to weigh the rhetorical importance and pertinence of these opinions in the debate. These elementary responsibilities in rhetorical analysis are illustrated in this article using the public discourse about migration between Mexico and the United States |
